St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral will host its annual Stars, Stripes, and Pipes patriotic concert and readings on Friday, July 3 at 6 p.m., offering the community a unique opportunity to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States through music, literature, history, and civic reflection.
The program will weave together readings from America's foundational documents, presidential speeches and correspondence, poetry, and literature with patriotic music performed by organist Joseph Ripka, soloist Paul Laurence Fletcher, and the Cathedral's magnificent pipe organ.
Confirmed guest readers include:
• Vicki Behenna, Oklahoma County District Attorney
• James Cooper, Oklahoma City Council Member, Ward 2
• Drew Edmondson, Former Oklahoma Attorney General
• Nathan Sheldon, Head of School, Casady School
Musical selections will include the National Anthem, America the Beautiful, traditional American hymns, and other patriotic favorites. Prayers, readings, and musical offerings will alternate throughout the service, creating an experience that is both reflective and celebratory.
"This year is especially meaningful as our nation marks its semi-quincentennial," said organizers. "We hope this event offers an opportunity to gather as a community, reflect on our shared history, and celebrate the values and aspirations that continue to shape our common life."
The program begins at 6 p.m. and lasts approximately one hour, allowing attendees time to travel to downtown Oklahoma City's Red, White & Boom celebration at Scissortail Park.
A patriotic Ice Cream Social will follow the service.
