Music at St. Paul’s: Fall 2026
A Season of Sacred Music, Ancient Tradition & Worship
Music has long been at the heart of worship at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral—giving voice to our prayers, drawing us more deeply into the presence of God, and connecting us to generations of Christians who have sung many of these same words before us.
This fall brings an especially rich season of music to the Cathedral. From a new weekly rhythm of Sunday Evensong to All Souls, Advent, A Ceremony of Carols, and the beloved Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols, there are many opportunities to listen, sing, pray, and experience the beauty of our Anglican musical tradition.
Choral Evensong: A New Sunday Rhythm
Sundays | 4 p.m.
Beginning September 13, Evensong becomes part of the weekly Sunday rhythm at St. Paul’s.
Choral Evensong is one of the treasures of the Anglican tradition. The Cathedral Schola and Cathedral Choir will each help lead this beautiful service throughout the year, offering sung prayers, responses, and anthems on behalf of the congregation.
On Sundays when a choir is not scheduled, the congregation will have the opportunity to sing Evensong together—a wonderful way to experience another dimension of Anglican evening prayer.
Holy Eucharist, Rite II, follows Evensong each Sunday at the high altar.

All Souls Requiem Mass
Monday, November 2 | 7 p.m.
On the Feast of All Souls, we gather in remembrance and prayer for those who have died.
This solemn Requiem Mass for All Souls will feature the music of Tomás Luis de Victoria, surrounding our prayers for the faithful departed with some of the Church’s most beautiful sacred music.
The Music of Advent & Christmas
As the Church year turns toward Advent, music helps carry us from darkness and expectation toward the joy of Christmas. Three special services and offerings will mark that journey at St. Paul’s this year.
Advent Procession
Sunday, November 29 | 4 p.m.
Beginning in darkness and candlelight, the Cathedral moves gradually toward full illumination through Scripture, hymns, and choral music as we enter the season of expectation. A festive reception follows, including a conversation with our Canon Precentor & Director of Music on the history and tradition of Lessons & Carols.
A Ceremony of Carols
Friday, December 11 | 7 p.m.
The upper voices of the Cathedral Choirs present Benjamin Britten’s beloved A Ceremony of Carols, accompanied by harp, along with music by John Rutter. This special evening of music is free and open to the public.
A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols
Sunday, December 20 | 4 p.m.
One of the most beloved services of the year returns as we celebrate the approach of Christmas through Scripture, carols, and hymns.
The service begins with a solo chorister singing the opening verse of Once in Royal David’s City and unfolds through nine readings and music telling the story of salvation. Come early—this beloved service fills quickly. Hot cider and cookies follow in the courtyard.

Whether you sing in a choir, join the congregation in a favorite hymn, experience Evensong for the first time, or simply sit and allow sacred music to become prayer, there is a place for you in the musical life of St. Paul’s.
