Living a Faithful Life: Worship
This week, our Living a Faithful Life practice of Worship invites us to pay attention to beauty—and to the ways beauty in music, words, sacred space, and movement can turn our attention toward God.
Begin with a simple breath prayer: inhale, “Come, Holy Spirit.” Exhale, “Open my heart.” Grow by noticing one moment of wonder during worship. Pause long enough to receive it and give thanks. Deepen by allowing the music of worship to become prayer rather than performance, listening for what draws your heart toward God. And rest with Psalm 150, reading it aloud and noticing its joy, sound, and movement.
As September comes to a close, there is still time for our Cathedral-Wide Practice: try a worship service you do not normally attend. As you do, notice where you encounter beauty and how it draws your attention toward God.
You do not have to accomplish every practice. Choose one. Pay attention. Make room for wonder. Sometimes living a faithful life begins simply by noticing the beauty already surrounding us.
