October 25 — Care Begins with Listening

As we come to the final Sunday of our October focus on CARE, this week’s Living a Faithful Life card invites us into one of the most important practices of care: attentive listening.

Listening can sound simple, but giving another person our full attention requires intention. Can we listen without preparing our response? Without interrupting, fixing, or persuading? Can we ask someone, “How are you, really?” and make room for the answer?
This week’s practices invite us to listen—to another person, to someone whose experience differs from our own, even to a piece of music received simply as a gift.

Care is love made attentive. As you move through the week, choose a practice from the card and make room to listen. You may be surprised by what you hear—and by what God reveals when we become quiet enough to receive it.
