Dean's Message for Thursday, May 7

Beloveds,
We continue our journey through Eastertide this week as we approach the Sixth Sunday of Easter—a season in which the Church keeps proclaiming that resurrection is not only something that happened, but something still happening among us now. New life often arrives quietly: in renewed hope, in unexpected grace, in relationships strengthened, and in the simple faithfulness of showing up for one another.

This coming Sunday also coincides with Mother’s Day, a day that can carry many different emotions and experiences. For some, it is a joyful time of gratitude and celebration. For others, it may bring grief, longing, complexity, or tender memories. Whatever this day holds for you, please know that you are held in prayer and welcome here. We give thanks for the many women whose love, wisdom, courage, and care help shape our lives and communities in countless ways.

As always, I hope you will join us for worship and fellowship this Sunday.

And I encourage you to look ahead to the following Sunday, May 17, which will be a full and joyful day in the life of St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral. During the 10:10 a.m. formation hour, our Member Engagement Belonging Series continues with St. Paul’s 101, a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our common life, worship, and ministries. At the 9:00 a.m. service, we will celebrate Senior Sunday and recognize our graduates. If you have a graduate in your family, please be sure to share their name with us soon.

Then at 4:00 p.m., we will gather for Choral Evensong for Ascensiontide, followed by a reception. This beautiful service will also mark the final Choral Evensong of the season, and I hope many of you will come to support our choir and choristers with gratitude for the gifts they share so faithfully.

There is so much life unfolding among us, and I am grateful to walk this Easter season with you.

Grace and peace,

The Very Rev. Katie Churchwell
