Rooted in abundance. You have heard this phrase many times at St. Paul's lately—in the prayers of the people, in sermons, in correspondence, and on our pledge cards.
"Abundance" is a loaded word—I know that many of you are feeling the scarcity of life, whether financially, physically, or emotionally. But God's abundant love is here. It is at St. Paul's. It is in the leaves falling from the trees, in the acorns gathered for the winter, in the roots of the trees even when they are dormant.
When the cares of the world overwhelm us, that is the time to dig deeper, to connect with our roots through scripture, liturgy and prayer; to reach higher, to future generations and new experiences; to rise up into the light of God's grace.
"Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever" (Collect of the Day, Proper 28).
