Dean's Message for May 22, 2025
Our wonderful Canon Precentor and organist extraordinaire, Joey Ripka, has been preparing the Olivier Messiaen “Ascension Suite” for our Ascension Day service on Thursday, May 29, at 12:10 pm in the Cathedral. The three days prior to Ascension Day are known as “rogation days” (see HERE for more information), at which we ask for the blessings of the fields at planting. The origin of this practice dates back to the fifth century, when prayers were also asked to ward off disaster (appropriate for springtime in our fair state!). This year, all of this coincides with the week of Memorial Day, which begins our summer schedule with regular Sunday services at 8 and 10 am. I hope you will join us this weekend at either a new time (10 am) or a new place (8 am in the Cathedral), and again next Thursday for Ascension Day. As always, there is much going on at St. Paul’s this week. “Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire” (Collect of the Day, the Sixth Sunday of Easter).
