Dean's Message for May 21, 2026

Beloveds,
Pentecost Sunday is almost here, and we cannot wait to celebrate this joyful feast day with you at St. Paul’s!

Pentecost is often called the birthday of the Church — the day the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples with wind, fire, courage, and new life, sending them out into the world to proclaim the Good News in every language and to every people. It is one of the great feast days of the Church year, and one of the most vibrant and hope-filled Sundays we share together as a cathedral community.

This Sunday will be especially meaningful as we celebrate baptisms in our midst — visible signs of the Spirit continuing to move, call, renew, and gather people into the life of Christ and the Church. Few things reflect the joy of Pentecost more beautifully than welcoming new members into the household of God. Please note: Incense will be used at our 11:15 a.m. service this Sunday!

We also hope you’ll stay after worship for our Pentecost Reception and red-themed potluck during the 10:10 hour. In place of regular children’s formation this week, everyone is encouraged to gather together in fellowship and celebration. Wear red if you’d like, bring a favorite red dish or treat to share, and enjoy this intergenerational time together as one cathedral family.

In a world that often feels fractured and weary, Pentecost reminds us that God is still breathing new life into the Church and into each of us. The Holy Spirit continues to gather people together across every kind of difference, drawing us more deeply into lives shaped by hope, courage, compassion, and love.

I hope you will join us for this beautiful and Spirit-filled Sunday!

Let us pray:
“Almighty God, on this day you opened the way of eternal life to every race and nation by the promised gift of your Holy Spirit: Shed abroad this gift throughout the world by the preaching of the Gospel, that it may reach to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.”
