Dean's Message for January 15, 2026

Beloveds,
The Epiphany season is about bringing light into darkness. The imagery of light in the Bible is ubiquitous—light is created in the third verse, and it is the very first thing created by God.
The creation story in John's gospel talks of life coming into being, and the life being the light of all people. It is no accident that this season follows the winter solstice, when each day grows a little lighter than the day before.
Here at St. Paul's, we are bringing light into the lives of the less fortunate with our day shelter, bringing light into our own and others' hearts through the sacraments of baptism, ordination, and communion, and bringing light into the larger world through service, fellowship, and worship. Please read on to learn more about these opportunities and ways in which your life and that of the Cathedral may intersect.
"Christ, whose glory fills the skies, Christ, the true, the only Light, Sun of Righteousness, arise! Triumph o'er the shades of night: Dayspring from on high, be near; Daystar, in my heart appear" (Hymnal 7).
The Very Reverend Katie Churchwell, 15th Dean, St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
