Cathedral Closure June 24, 2025

Grace and peace to you in this joyful season!
I write to share an important—and rather unique—update: on Tuesday, June 24, the Cathedral will be completely closed for the day. This means there will be no Feast Day Eucharist, no access to Cathedral buildings or grounds, and no access to any of our parking lots.
Why? Because our beloved Oklahoma City Thunder have won the National Championship, and the city-wide championship parade will take place just one block from our Cathedral!
Our south parking lot will serve as a primary command center for the Oklahoma City Police Department throughout the event, and we expect massive crowds and limited accessibility downtown by both foot and vehicle. In partnership with city leadership and in consideration of safety and logistics, we’ve made the decision to fully close our campus for the day.
While we will miss gathering for the Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, we also rejoice in this exciting milestone for our city! It is a special moment of unity, pride, and celebration—and one that speaks to the spirit of perseverance, teamwork, and community.
As we give thanks for the joy of this victory and the gathering of so many in celebration, I share this short and fitting prayer from the Book of Common Prayer (p. 836):
For Joy in God’s Creation
O heavenly Father, who hast filled the world with beauty:
Open our eyes to behold thy gracious hand in all thy works;
that, rejoicing in thy whole creation, we may learn to serve thee with gladness;
for the sake of him through whom all things were made,
thy Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Let us give thanks for the energy, excitement, and gift of community that moments like this bring. And then—back to our regularly scheduled liturgy and life together, renewed and ready.
