A Change to our Worship

Dear Cathedral Community,
I want to share an important change in our common life. After much prayerful discernment, the Vestry has determined to conclude our 4 p.m. Saturday service. Our final regular Saturday liturgy will take place on April 12, 2025.

This decision has not been made lightly. For some, this service has been a beloved place of rest and worship. I want to express deep gratitude to all who have faithfully attended, and to the extraordinary team of ministry leaders who made the service possible week after week.

Over the past months, however, we’ve seen that attendance at this service remains low, even as the demands on staff and volunteers remain high. As a cathedral community, we are continually called to ask how we can best use our time, energy, and resources to further God’s mission. In this case, we believe that stepping back from the Saturday service will allow us to focus more fully on the ministries that form the heart of our identity: Sunday worship, formation for all ages, outreach to our city, and hospitality that reflects the love of Christ.

This shift invites us into a season of deeper focus and renewed energy. Rather than stretching ourselves thin, we will be able to strengthen and sustain the worship and ministries that draw the most people into deeper relationship with God and one another.

If this change is difficult for you, please know that I understand and hold space for your sadness. My door is open if you wish to talk.

Thank you for being part of the vibrant, prayerful, and loving body that is St. Paul’s. I am so grateful to be on this journey with you.

In Christ,

The Very Reverend Katie Churchwell
Dean, St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral
