OAKERHATER WEEKEND
The annual celebration of the ministry of St. David Pendleton Oakerhater took place at St. Paul's on August 28-29. On Saturday, our parishioners and visitors were the beneficiaries of the time and talents of Lin and Ernesto Sanchez and Blue Clark. Lin shared her love of and artistry in needlepoint, while Ernesto showed us how a single image can be interpreted in a multitude of ways through the medium of watercolor. Blue led a session talking about sweetgrass and other herbs and symbols of Native Americans. We then enjoyed a picnic in the garden and a wonderful presentation by Leon Natker with the First Americans Museum.
On Sunday, Bude VanDyke was our guest preacher, and we welcomed back the Caddo drummers. The 9:00 and 11:30 services started in the garden with prayers to the four directions on the labyrinth and we then processed into the Cathedral for the rest of the service, including the smudging of the altar in preparation for the Eucharist.
