Lights, Camera, St. Paul's!
St. Paul's takes the stage...or rather is the stage!
In mid-October, the Cathedral was contacted by a location scout for a movie that is currently being filmed in Oklahoma City. The film tells a touching story of a boy with brittle bone disease and autism. His unbreakable spirit, despite the limitations of life, and the relationship with his father come to life in this film.
After an initial look around and a walk through with the director and creative team, St. Paul's was asked to be the location for some of the scenes for the movie.
The Vestry voted on November 5th to approve the use of our location for the film The Unbreakable Boy joining countless other Episcopal Churches who have shared the beauty of their spaces on the silver screen.
Here is what you should know:
- We reviewed the overall theme of the film and the specific scenes being filmed on our campus.
- The Bishop was consulted and he gave his blessing to move forward with this project
- The contract was reviewed by the Diocesan Chancellor, our very own Gary Derrick
- The health and safety precautions taken by the film are extensive, including the sanitization before and after their use of our spaces and rigorous testing of all people on site during the filming.
- The filming does not interfere with cathedral life.
- St. Paul's will be compensated for the use of our space.
Additionally, the Vestry considered that this is both an uplifting moment for the St. Paul's community and an opportunity for evangelism. Not only will it be fun to watch the movie and see our church, but we have an opportunity to engage with people who might not otherwise know about St. Paul's and our commitment to the Gospel. The film crew, the A-list actors, and the people like us who will watch this movie will know the beauty of St. Paul's and that God is present here.
